The Q♣️ speaks of the bridge of communication. How do we cross the space between us? How do we approach the other?
It is easy to talk, particularly in a world of chatter. But how is it to really communicate, to know and to be known? We might immediately think of communication being about words but a larger part of communication is conveyed through our body language, facial expressions and tone of voice, which may often influence the message more than words alone.
Our dolphins remind us of the dance of communication. The space and the pauses are as important as the words. To communicate well we need to blend courage and vulnerability in an attitude of openness to being changed, to listen to learn.
The Q♣️ is the bridge, the link between inner and outer and throughout The Cards. The whole pack is here to engage with us and ask us questions. How do we take in, assimilate and respond to all the messages, images, sensations, thoughts and feelings arising in us and between us?
Slowing down is always a start. Perhaps the K♠️ is a good partner for the Q♣️ here with the whispering Jokers who challenge us to choose words that matter.
The On Being Project describe ‘words that matter’: "We are starved for fresh language to approach each other”.
We need what Elizabeth Alexander calls “words that shimmer” - words with power that convey real truth, which cannot be captured in mere fact.
Words have the force of action and become virtues in and of themselves. The words we use shape how we understand ourselves, how we interpret the world, how we treat others. Words are one of our primary ways to reach across the mystery of each other.
As technology reframes the meaning of basic human acts like making, leading and belonging, the world needs the most vivid and transformative universe of words we can muster.
