The 4♣️ is the Power-full card.

Just like the gravitational pull of the planets on our card, the 4♣️ invites us to ask ourselves "where is the power?"

Power refers to our ability to influence or control others, resources or outcomes. The difference between having power over others and sharing power more equally lies in the nature of authority and collaboration.

Human society over the last six thousand years has build itself in the shape of a pyramid of power. Many at the bottom with very little power, and only a few powerful people at the top.

The power pyramid is built on fear, fear that there is not enough to go around which can lead to anger and violence. Nature does not build in pyramids but in networks.

The scholar and environmental activist, Joanna Macy has coined the term, "the Great Turning" to describe the shift in human consciousness and societal values towards a more sustainable and just world. Macy emphasises the importance of acknowledging and facing the environmental, social and economic challenges humanity faces. This involves confronting the realities of issues such as the climate crisis, biodiversity loss and social injustice.

The Great Turning involves reimagining and reshaping cultural narratives and models. So this would be away from pyramid structures which have dominated our societies and towards nature as our teacher, organised in interdependent networks within networks. Macy stresses the significane of active engagement and collective efforts to create positive change.

The Cards are here to help in this endeavour. Look at the choice card, Manomaya. We make our world through our thoughts so manomaya translates as:

"what is made in the human mind can be unmade by the human mind".

So now is the time to investigate and get curious about power. How do we build our own power and capability? How do we share this with others? How do we confront imbalances of power with respect? How do we navigate boundaries, keeping them both strong and porous?

Gil Scott Heron presciently foretold "the revolution will not be televised". This means that the revolution - change - will come from self-transformation.

More from David Steindl-Rast:

"This is the revolution we need - a revolution that revolutionises even the very notion of revolution. No longer will revolution mean that those who were at the bottom of they pyramid now get to the top and behave just like those who were on top before them. There will be no more top. Power will no longer be able to hijack authority, instead, authority based on wisdom will bestow power. Those with authoritative insight will be given positions of power as long as their service is needed and for no longer"
